The original images were made using
an old Polaroid SX70 camera. As soon as the photograph was ejected
from the camera, I used a toothpick to manipulate the surface of the
Polaroid print and produce the impressionistic visual affect. Depending
upon the ambient temperature, I had from 5 to 20 minutes in which
the surface was still soft enough to manipulate. I scanned the finished
images into a computer and use an inkjet printer to make reproductions
of the original Altered Polaroid SX70s. I do not digitally alter the
images, except to enlarge and reproduce the original Altered Polaroid
SX70 print as accurately as possible.

In 2005 Polaroid changed the Polaroid
Time Zero film manufacturing process. In doing that, Polaroid took
away the ability to alter the images
"inadvertently"
Polaroid said at the time. While many people complained, in early
2006 Polaroid Corporation completely discontinued the manufacture
of Polaroid Time Zero film and ended this art form.
In 2008 Polaroid decided to cease manufacture of all instant film
products.
